The Story of Howie and Kay

Here are lyrics to "The Story of Howie and Kay", the fifth cut on the CD Beach Bar Serenade.

This is the story about H&K about a guy who never passed away
The doctor’s said it was a terminal case
But Kay just laughed in their face

CHORUS
And it’s just like I told you, as long as I can hold you I’ll never let you go

Howie’d wear winter coats in June
The doctor’s said, pretty soon
But Kay swore she heard angels that would sing
Love conquers everything

CHORUS
And it’s just like I told you, as long as I can hold you I’ll never let you go

BRIDGE
One day when I was walking across the street
This big old car nearly knocked me off my feet
As I unraveled from this frightful ordeal
It was Howie behind the wheel
We both laughed until we almost cried
And Howie was still laughing as he apologized
Shook my hand as he pulled away
And said, if I’d had hit you, you would have had to blame Kay

Howie was still alive when I wrote this song
He and Kay were still going strong
We laughed about a dozen goodbyes
For a guy that wouldn’t die
And to the doctor’s who prescribed the pills
And tell us when we’re sick and ill
I suggest til you can bottle love in a jar
Don’t underestimate the human heart

CHORUS
And it’s just like I told you, as long as I can hold you I’ll never let you go
